After seeing adventures in gold leafing all over Pinterest, (here's one of my favs), I thought it'd be fun to try it on a mason jar. This is a messy process for sure, but the results are very pretty! I can imagine these someday at my wedding, but for now it looks lovely along side some of my painted mason jars. I think I'll spray another jar this weekend while painting a pretty side table to see the differences!
Materials needed: Mason jar, gold leaf sheets, gold leaf adhesive, sealer and smooth brushes. Brush the adhesive on the jar and let dry (adhesive will turn clear and tacky). Go sheet by sheet and "paste" onto jar with clean, smooth brush. After completely covered, use sealer (I used a spray kind) and let dry!
A tip I could have used was to have TWO brushes: one for the adhesive and one for smoothing. I noticed that the adhesive didn't come off well after washing the brush, so my gold leaf was sticking to the brush WAY too much! Another good tip would be to do this project inside- I usually work outside and the wind blew the gold sheets before sticking to the jar, which caused those rude lines.
Enjoy!

i love the gold - it's so pretty! especially with flowers inside!
